The Voluntary Consortium of protection and valorization of wines of Gioia Del Colle DOC has been founded the 3^rd of February 2000 and as been recognized from the Ministry for Agricoltural and Forest politics in 2003. The main scope of the Consortium consists in to defend, to value and to cure the interests of the Denomination of Origin and Geographic Indication of wines of Gioia Del Colle DOC, but also to stimulate researches and experimentation in order to improve the quality and the technique of cultivation in the respect of the environment. The denomination of controlled origin Gioia Del Colle includes the PRIMITIVO, the PRIMITIVO AMABILE, the RED WINE, the ROSÈ WINE, the WHITE WINE, the SWEET ALEATICO and the LIQUEUR ALEATICO. The location of Gioia Del Colle DOC is the middle of Murgia. The word “Murgia” derives from the ancient term “Murex” that means acuminate stone and also is the picture of a rocky pasture. The soil is rich in the stones and caves (carsismo) and the hills around the farms  are a typical landscape. In this context the presence of old farms, rural chapels and the never ending small stone walls are significant for a visual memory made not only of places but of people. The signs of the past are easy recognizable from a deep and traced net of rural streets among small centres and big farms who is able to assume contemporary the nice aspect of a temperate spring but also the infinite colours of a warm autumn.
